Why Player Props?

Quarterback Props

Passing Yards Analysis
Key Factors:
  • Game script projection: Will team be trailing? Trailing = more passing
  • Opponent pass defense: EPA/dropback allowed, yards per attempt allowed
  • Pace of play: Fast games = more passing attempts
  • Indoor vs outdoor: Dome games favor passing
  • Wind: High wind depresses passing volume
Quick Formula:
Projected Yards = (Attempts × YPA) adjusted for matchup and weather
Example: If a QB averages 35 attempts × 7.5 YPA = 262.5 yards baseline. Against a bottom-5 pass defense (+8% adjustment) = ~283 yards projected.
Passing TD Props

TD props have high variance but can be exploitable:

  • Red zone opportunities: More drives = more TD chances
  • TD rate normalization: QBs with unsustainably high/low TD rates regress
  • Goal line usage: Some teams run more at the goal line
Variance warning: TD props are essentially binary outcomes with high variance. Size bets accordingly.

Running Back Props

Primary Factors:

What % of team carries does this RB get? 70%+ share is ideal.

Opponent Run Defense

EPA/rush allowed, yards before contact, run stuff rate.

Game Script

Favored teams run more. Trailing teams abandon the run.

Best spots: High-usage RBs on favored teams against bottom-10 run defenses.
Receiving Props for RBs

RB receiving props can be softer than rushing props:

  • Target share: What % of team targets go to RB?
  • Routes run: How often is RB on the field for passing plays?
  • Matchup: LB coverage ability is key
  • Game script: Trailing = more checkdowns to RB

Target share is the most predictive metric for receiver production:

Anytime TD props are popular but require careful analysis:

Prop Correlations

Understanding correlations helps build same-game parlays and avoid contradictory bets:

Positive Correlations:
  • QB passing yards + WR receiving yards (same team)
  • Team total Over + QB passing yards Over
  • Big underdog + QB passing yards Over (garbage time)
  • RB rushing yards + team spread (favorites run more)
Negative Correlations:
  • RB rushing yards + trailing game script
  • Multiple WRs on same team going Over
  • QB passing yards + game Under

Start with one prop type and master it before expanding.

Prop pricing, worked exactly (and a data honesty note)

First, the honesty note: the game log bundled with this site contains team scores and game lines, no player statistics — so this page's usage thresholds (target share bands, YPA baselines) are framework from public play-by-play research, not numbers we computed. What we can do exactly is the pricing math that determines whether any prop framework can pay.

Props rarely come at −110 on both sides. A typical over/under at −115/−115 (exact formula math):

  • Implied probability each side: 115/215 = 53.49%. Sum: 106.98%.
  • Book hold: 1 − 1/1.0698 = 6.5% — against 4.5% on a −110 game line. At −120/−120, hold reaches 8.3%.
  • Required win rate: 53.5%, before you disagree with the line at all.

That is the real meaning of “props are softer”: the lines may be sloppier because books price hundreds of them in bulk, but the prices are wider to pay for it. Your projection has to beat the number by more than a game-line edge would need to, just to break even. A prop strategy that cannot articulate why its projection beats the book's by 2+ points of win rate is a donation schedule with extra spreadsheet steps.

Worked example: is +150 anytime TD a good price?

The math-check pattern from the card above, in full. A back is +150 to score a touchdown (illustrative current-format price):

  • Implied probability: 100/(150+100) = 40.0%.
  • Your break-even: he must score in more than 40% of games like this one.
  • Evidence check: if he scored in 8 of his last 15 games (53%), the naive read is value — but 15 games of a binary event has a standard error of √(0.53 × 0.47/15) ≈ 13 points. The honest confidence interval runs from roughly 27% to 79%. The sample cannot distinguish a 40% scorer from a 55% scorer.
  • EV if his true rate is 45%: 0.45 × 1.50 − 0.55 = +0.125 per unit (+12.5%). If 35%: 0.35 × 1.50 − 0.65 = −0.125. The entire bet lives inside your estimate's error bars.

This is why serious prop bettors lean on projections built from usage (snaps, red-zone touches, team implied totals — see the game script guide) rather than trailing scoring rates: the inputs stabilize faster than the output. All arithmetic above is exact formula math on stated hypotheticals.

Honest limitations

  • No player data in the bundled log — usage bands and matchup effects on this page are unverified framework here; the checkable parts are the pricing math and the game-level context (favorites of 10+ won by 17+ points 37.4% of the time, the “garbage time” base rate that drives many prop narratives).
  • Prop lines move on news faster than game lines. Inactives an hour before kickoff reprice half the board; any static analysis ages in minutes.
  • Limits are low for a reason. Books cap prop stakes precisely because bulk-priced lines are attackable; the same fact means prop edges cannot scale.
